|Rezidor joins United Nations’ Global Compact|
The Rezidor Hotel Group has joined the United Nations’ Global Compact – a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. It is the largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative in the world with over 4,700 participants in more than 130 countries. “Rezidor is one of the first international hotel groups to join the Global Compact”, comments Catherine Rubbens, Director Responsible Business. “This is a crucial step for us in further underlining the importance of our company-wide Responsible Business programme. In today’s global context where social, political and economic challenges affect companies as never before, we recognise the need to and the benefits of collaborating with international partners.”
The Global Compact seeks to combine the best properties of the UN with the private sector’s solution-finding strengths and the expertise of a range of key stakeholders and local networks. The Rezidor Hotel Group looks forward to contributing to and learning from the wide spectrum of specialised workstreams, management tools and resources and to sharing best and emerging practices with other participants.
In autumn 2008, Rezidor was selected to participate in an international communication project initiated by the Global Compact, featuring in the “Responsible Business” television series aired on CNBC World, CNBC Europe and CNBC Asia Pacific. “We are delighted to further develop our cooperation”, says Catherine Rubbens. “Many of the Global Compact’s local networks can be found in young and emerging markets like Africa which is at the same time one of Rezidor’s most important and fastest growing business development areas. Many of our hotels already contribute in innovative ways to local development, and we hope that our collaboration with the Global Compact will help us accelerate and mainstream these initiatives further.” Rezidor’s corporate reporting system on sustainability will also be further aligned to the Global Compact’s principles – moving towards even greater accountability and transparency.
